What year did you graduate? (Or what year would you have graduated?)
1999
What do you do now?
I was a kindergarten teacher at Pine Forest Elementary for four years in Jacksonville. I was nominated for "Teacher of the Year" my last year there (whoohoo!) Now I live in Lincoln, NE and teach dance and fitness.
I've been the ballet teacher for the youth dive team of University of Nebraska for a little over a year now. It's a really neat job and it's very "out of the box." Also, I just started a new job this school year working with a team of other teachers and the school psych/counselor. We service "at risk" students. I go to classrooms and assess students, use interventions, and work with data. It's another "out of the box" job, but I'm really liking it so far. It's nice to work with different students each day, verses having my own classroom.
Another thing that has kept me busy: In 2002, I was diagnosed with an end-stage renal disease. After 3 long years of dialysis treatments five-six times a day and waiting on the "list," I finaly got the call from the UF Shands transplant center that resulted in a successful kidney transplant on April 7, 2005. The kidneys were dontated by a 10 month old baby, so I needed both to function as one. It was very bittersweet. I've never felt better and my "baby" kidneys are taking great care of me.
*** Back in Jacksonville, YAY! Expecting our baby boy July 19th! Which is why we won't be able to make it to the reunion. Have a great time everyone! Post lots of pics here!!!
Dear Katie,
I want to thank you for the sweet thought you wrote about my son James.
He did have the sunniest smile. We have published his book and would like to give you one. He said while he worked on the book that he was going to give one to all of his friends and I am trying to honor that.
