Canarsie Suite is a Vaudeville Noir that celebrates the gritty, courageous stage life of female entertainers in the early 1900’s. It chronicles the madcap adventures of the LeRoy Sisters in the final days of Vaudeville and the gilded dreams of small-time performers Birdie and Gladys LeRoy. Inspired by the audacity and struggles of historical figures such as the young Frances Gumm before she was Judy Garland, the Cherry Sisters who dodged many a rotten tomato and Georgia Lee, the great “Lady of the Evening” on the Alaskan frontier, Canarsie Suite weaves a darkly contemporary tale of crisis and discovery through a side-splitting carnival of dance, song, knife throwing, acrobatic gorillas and High Melodrama.
